About Bariatric Keto
Mary Beth Filer, Founder, Bariatric Keto
I hold a certificate in Health and Nutrition as well as a Master’s Degree and background in medical research. In 2010 I was sent home by my oncologist with a terminal prognosis for breast cancer. I lived, but gained a lot of weight. I was around 350 pounds. I stayed away from the scale because I felt I'd failed. When WLS didn’t seem to work for me, my bariatric surgeon suggested keto. But mainstream keto doesn't meet our new body's nutritional requirements. So my surgeon tried to get bariatric information on Keto. No one - not me, the surgeon or his staff could find it. I'm also a disabled veteran. I don't accept defeat easily. And I was determined to be around to see my grandchildren born. So...
I set about creating a program that would work for ME. It took HUNDREDS of hours of research (which is what I was trained to do), interviewing Bariatric specialists, and then trying it on myself. Seeing my success, others in the November 2016 surgery group wanted to try it. The weight loss we achieved was marked enough that still more started taking notice. That led to the creation of a group called Bariatric Amazons on Keto. We taught the program to over 3K ladies, the majority of who also lost higher amounts of weight.
Bariatric Amazons on Keto morphed into this Bariatric Keto program because people couldn't readily find us. So Bariatric Keto was created totally by accident, born out of a desperate desire to lose weight in a healthy manner and LIVE. Believe me, if a program had been available I would have followed it rather than taking a year to develop this one! Now we have a contributing board of Bariatric Specialists and a Bariatric Dietician creating our menus. Most of our moderators have advanced degrees and many play the role of medical professionals in "real life". We even offer moderators the opportunity of paid continuing education in our field.
